2-8 July 2012
After the two week whirlwind tour with the k-folks and our respective sicknesses, we are both feeling pretty run down. The complete plan is “go to Croatia, find a beach, lie on it”. In planning the drive though, we find that Venice is in our way and so we decide to drop in for a day of sight-seeing first.
The first stop in Croatia is a place called Baska on the island of Krk. This is renowned for having a fabulous beach and a huge nudist colony. The beach however is teeming with (fully-clothed) masses of people which was enough to turn us off. We never saw the nudist colony. Already late at night, we booked an emergency single night accommodation in the town of Vrbnik to give us time to find the next location. A nice enough town, but not the destination I have in mind.
The island of Krk is close to Italy and connected to the mainland with a bridge. Since harder to get to usually equals less people, we decide to head to the island of Losinj. We set up camp in Mali Losinj, a famous place full of people, but also with many islands, beaches, coves and forests to explore. Tired from the drive, time getting on, and with little accommodation available in town, we take the first decent-looking apartment offered to us and rent it for a week.
The rest of the time is spent just pretty much just sleeping and swimming.
